“I think it is time to put my money where my whistle is and do something.” That is what I told myself when I decided to launch The Official Timeout. There was something missing out there. The type of clear, concise information that I was seeking when I first started did not exist. If it did, I was unable to access it due to not being a part of an association or it was behind a paywall. Sure, there were rule books, mechanics manuals, abbreviated versions of both (with illustrations), but I just could not find a “single” source out there that I could use to apply to any situation without referencing another source that was also designed to do the same thing. My solution, try and create a source of information that is comprehensive, relevant, and digestible for all interest levels.
The Official Timeout will aspire to tackle the nuances of the rule book(s), while incorporating the technical aspects of the on-field mechanics of football officiating. My belief is that by combining both concepts, anyone can become educated in a short period of time. I hope that I can provide useful information that can be applied at all levels. All topics introduced will be covered from a basic standpoint to provide a solid foundation. However, I will provide enough supplemental information to ignite the discussion of philosophy. One thing I want everyone to know is that officiating starts out as a science, then it becomes an art.
In conclusion, I hope this idea of mine can become a useful resource to everyone. I will try my best to inform through educational training videos, rulebook/mechanics breakdowns, or basic blog. Thank you all in advance for your support as I begin this journey with all of you.
